What they do

Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community certification (MHRT/C) professionals work with adults living with serious mental illness in a variety of roles and community-based settings including:

  • Community Integration 
  • Behavioral Health Home (BHH) 
  • Mental Health Psychosocial Clubhouse 
  • Assertive Community Treatment 
  • Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers (CCBHC) 
  • Skills Development 
  • and more 

MHRT/Cs play a crucial role in the mental health care system by providing direct support to adults  with mental health diagnoses. Their responsibilities include: 

  • Helping clients develop and implement personal recovery plans
  • Providing education on managing mental health symptoms
  • Facilitating community integration
  • Supporting individuals to pursue employment goals
  • Assisting clients in developing social skills and enhancing communication abilities

The MHRT/C certification program is competency based, enabling those with a variety of backgrounds who have appropriate education, work experience and training to earn certification. You can qualify for MHRT/C certification through a variety of ways, such as: 

  • Academic coursework
  • Approved Non-Academic coursework (i.e. relevant training or workshops)
  • Related work experience
